This is the work that inspired a whole series of collages!
Ammonites are a major feature of the geology here in Dorset, and the logarithmic spiral is an intriguing artistic concept. I originally tried painting a group of stylised ammonites using watercolour and metallic pen (which you can see below), but the result was too tight and rigid. I scribbled over some of the sections, trying to loosen it up, but still wasn't happy. I was so cross I tore the painting up, then realised the fragments suddenly looked a lot more interesting! So I reassembled them into one large ammonite, again using the silver pen to outline the segments, but keeping the whole shape much softer.
The collage is on dark blue paper in a pewter-effect wooden frame, ready to hang. Overall size 36 x 36 cm approx. The price includes delivery to mainland UK.
NB This work is on display at an exhibition at Houghton Lodge, near Stockbridge in Hampshire until the end of May.
