After months of grey skies and winter rain, a burst of brilliance is arriving at Dorchester Arts.
From 28 March to 6 April, the historic Dorchester Corn Exchange will host HELIOS, a breathtaking seven-metre sculpture of the Sun by internationally acclaimed British artist Luke Jerram. This remarkable installation offers visitors the rare chance to experience our nearest star on a truly monumental scale. Even better, daytime entry is free, making it an accessible treat for all.
HELIOS transforms the Corn Exchange into a glowing, immersive space where art, science and sound combine to evoke the awe and energy of the Sun. Alongside the installation, a vibrant exhibition, ‘Catch the Sun’, celebrates the creativity of the local community, featuring around sixty artworks inspired by the same powerful theme.
Selected from approximately 150 submissions, the exhibition brings together artists of all ages and backgrounds — from established local artists to children and first-time creators. Each piece offers its own interpretation of the Sun, celebrating its warmth, vitality and the life it sustains.
I’m delighted that my painting “Abundance” has been selected for the exhibition, along with my husband Mark’s piece, “Spex for Sale.”
Together, these exhibitions create a wonderful opportunity to experience both a spectacular large-scale installation and the rich diversity of creativity within our local community.
