I’m looking forward to entertaining the Dorset Family History Society in Poole on 19th May.
People often assume that because my musical talk Lifting the Lid is rooted in my own family history, I must be some kind of genealogy expert. After talks, I’m often asked to help untangle other people’s family mysteries – and I have to admit, I’m rarely much help!
The truth is, most of my research has been a case of ‘standing on the shoulders of giants’: relying predominantly on the efforts of others. And when it comes to turning stories I have unearthed into songs, I lean quite happily on a bit of creative licence.
So it’s a real honour (and, if I’m honest, slightly daunting!) to have been invited by the Dorset FHS to speak. Let’s just hope there aren’t too many tricky questions 👀
