NINE BARROW DOWN

Polly Pedantic points out that there are in fact eighteen Bronze Age bowl barrows on Nine Barrow Down, plus a Neolithic long barrow, so it really ought to be called Nineteen Barrow Down……..
Whatever. Mark and I were up there in the desiccated days of last summer for the Purbeck Valley Folk Festival and I thought the delicious curves of the landscape were crying out to be painted!

I’ve used a wintry palette becos right now it’s cold outside. Soft blues, greys and mauve, mixed from Titanium White, Phthalo Blue, Ultramarine, Cadmium Yellow Deep, Winsor Violet, and Payne’s Grey.
You can see this piece in real life at the Cygnet Gallery in Shaftesbury or read more about it here 😊
